2008 RICHARD TAUBER PRIZE for Singers

The final public audition for the 29th Richard Tauber Prize was held at Wigmore Hall on the 4th June. 139 young singers had competed in preliminary rounds in both London and Vienna, and, of these, ten were selected to sing before a jury consisting of Bernard Keeffe (Anglo-Austrian Music Society), Elaine Padmore (Royal Opera House), Pal Moe (Glyndebourne), Lillian Watson, Nigel Douglas and Franz Lukasovsky .

The prize winners are:

First Prize of £ 5000 and Public London Recital :
CHRISTOPHER AINSLIE - a 29 year old South African counter-tenor, former student at the Royal College of Music

Second Prize of £ 2500
SARAH-JANE BRANDON – a 24 year old South African soprano, currently at the Royal College of Music

Adèle Leigh Memorial Prize of £ 2000
IDA FALK WINLAND - a 26 year old Swedish soprano, former student at Royal College of Music

Schubert Society of Britain Lied Prize of £ 500 and London recital
SEHO CHANG – a 26 year old Korean baritone, currently at the Universität für Musik, Vienna

Ferdinand Rauter Memorial Prize for Accompanists of £ 1000
