The Anglo-Austrian Society was originally founded in 1944 in London.

Salzburg with fortress

Few countries have so rich an historical heritage as Austria and it is easy to fall in love with the contemporary scene of this modern state.

There is Vienna, Austria’s capital on the Danube, once the centre of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and thus a political, economic and cultural centre throughout history, with wonderful museums, art galleries, palaces, traditional cafes and splendid restaurants.

Trachtenmusik Fuschl

Austria’s present geographical status bears no relation whatever to its glorious past, but blended in suitable proportions modern Austria has a dynamic economy,  wonderful scenery of Lakes and Mountains, good food and wine, a thriving tourist trade and a cared for environment. Come and see for yourself, the Austrians will welcome you at any time of the year.

The City of Birmingham Choir will give a performance of Handel's Messiah in the Stephansdom on 21st April The City of Birmingham Choir is one of the leading choral societies in the UK and our annual performances of Messiah in Symphony Hall with the CBSO are always very well received and are a popular feature in the Christmas celebrations in the City. We are very excited at the opportunity to sing this great work in Stephansdom with the Domorchester and I know that our contacts in the cathedral are very much looking forward to the performance. On the same day we will also be performing four motets during the midday Mass which will be followed by a short concert (approx 30 mins) of English choral works by Finzi and Walton.
