The Salzburg Festival (www.salzburgfestival.at) was founded in 1920 and is held passion plays performed around Easter. However, the international reputation of the Salzburg F estival was earned for opera and concerts, not for the drama.

The Donauinselfest (www.donauinselfest.at) is a festival of modern music that has been organised in its current form in Vienna since 1984. For three days in early summer, the series of free open air concerts by a variety of international, contemporary bands transforms the Donauinsel ("Danube Island") into the largest open air concert in Europe.
Mörbisch has become famous for its Operetta festival Seefestspiele that are performed on a floating stage on Lake Neusiedl. The festival runs from the middle of July to the end of August.
This is a top-ranking theatre festival among the Austrian summer cultural events. Its program is based on an outstanding cultural tradition. Only 70 miles south of Vienna, situated in a scenic mountainous setting, Reichenau has been a traditional summer resort for the Viennese high society since the late 19th century.
